…chooses Renewable Juneau’s Carbon Offset Fund as its first charitable organization!

Nearly 150 concerned women came together at Juneau’s Hangar on the Wharf on January 16 to kick off the 100 Women Who Care first quarterly charitable giving event. Choosing from a hat of organization applications, submitted by women in attendance, three applications were chosen and their submitters given five minutes to make their pitch to the crowd in support of their organization of choice.

Kate Troll spoke for Renewable Juneau’s Carbon Offset Fund, ironically enough, in direct competition with her daughter who was speaking in support of the Alaska Folk Festival. Kate, Renewable Juneau’s newest board member, won the crowd and the vote, with an award of nearly $15,000 to the Juneau Carbon Offset Fund!

“Renewable Juneau will waste no time putting these funds to work in Juneau,” Kate told the crowd. “This tremendous donation will help Renewable Juneau’s Carbon Offset Fund reach four more lower-income Juneau families, replacing their carbon-heavy and expensive oil-heating systems with hydroelectricity-powered air source heat pumps. Hand in hand with the financial savings these families will realize will be the elimination of nearly 23 annual tons of carbon dioxide. And, the money will stay in Juneau, helping these families, helping local businesses and helping Juneau to achieve both its renewable energy and affordable housing goals.”

From Facebook:

100 Women Who Care is a group of women who care deeply about the community of Juneau, Alaska by coming together and supporting charitable organizations.

The group gathers four times a year for a one-hour meeting, and each member writes a $100 check to a charity that the group selects. This combined donation makes a real impact, without time-consuming fundraising events and planning. Our mission and our hope is to be a part of positive and real change in Juneau.
