The Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund’s (ACRF) 54th lower income heat pump install marks our first job in Ketchikan and the first ACRF job of 2025! We are excited to see the ACRF program expanding to assist families in need in installing energy efficient heat pumps across Southeast Alaska! Another Ketchikan household is close behind this one, with two Sitka households close on their heels. We fully intend to see these numbers grow as we move forward!
Steve S. of Ketchikan was excited to be accepted into the ACRF program and have a heat pump installed in his home. Here’s what Steve had to say about the process of working with Alaska Heat Smart and ACRF:
“The heat pump will reduce my dependence on my oil stove that has been consuming 50 to 60 or more gallons of heating fuel per month. I anticipated that the heat pump will consume substantially less energy, enabling my household to reduce my overall expenses.
The administration of Alaska Heat Smart was absolutely superb in handling my application and they were very courteous and responsive to every question. It was a pleasure to find an organization that works diligently in every facet with regards to achieving a smooth transition from application to final installation. I must say thank you!”
The expansion of ACRF into southern southeast Alaska has been made possible by the generous support of Alaska tourism businesses who embrace the ACRF mission and have partnered with the Fund. We are thankful for Carnival Cruise Line and Allen Marine Tours, whose 2024 contributions have made the ACRF expansion to Ketchikan and Sitka possible.
In these times of federal funding uncertainty, privately-funded programs like ACRF are critical in serving families in need in Southeast Alaska. Support for ACRF is more important now than ever! Upfront costs for a homeowner to take advantage of locally produced and often inexpensive hydropower can be prohibitive. Homeowner support from projects like ACRF is often the only way that those with the highest energy burdens can reduce their costs.
Last year represented the five-year anniversary of ACRF and the milestone of serving 50 homes in the Fund’s first five years. On the horizon is the goal of serving 120 homes over the first ten years of ACRF work. Can you help us reach this ambitious target? We’ll need your support and there are many ways to offer it!
