“Carbon negativity is the cornerstone of our regenerative business goals. Our partnership with the Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund makes that possible.”
Wild Coast Excursions is the newest Southeast Alaska tourism business to seek out the carbon-reducing services of the Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund. Offering wilderness brown bear viewing and unique helicopter-accessed alpine hiking trips, Wild Coast takes the drive to carbon neutrality to a new level. All Wild Coast trips will be operated and managed in a manner that makes each visitor’s individual impact carbon negative! This ground-breaking approach to Alaska tourism will apply to all trips, including bear watching at Admiralty Island’s Pack Creek Brown Bear Sanctuary and Waterfall Cove on Chichagof Island.

How It Works!
The team at Renewable Juneau’s Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund worked hand-in-hand with Wild Coast Excursions staff to assess the impact of each guest on all 2024 planned trip offerings. Factors that play into such calculations include the number of guests per plane or helicopter flight, van transportation to and from the airport, the type of plane or helicopter required, the air time to travel round trip, and the number of meals required for each trip.
To account for non-consumables used by guests on each trip, a 10% ‘de minimus’ value will be added to the initial impact assessment. In order to take emissions reduction to negative, ensuring that each guest’s impact will be paid for in excess of the calculated reality, a 25% multiplier will be applied. In short, the cost of a guest’s impact will be paid at a rate of 125%. Said another way, when a guest’s carbon impact is managed by ACRF, 25% more carbon will be removed from ‘production’ than was created by that guest’s Wild Coast experience. Be sure to read the details on the ‘Path to Carbon Negativity’ page on the Wild Coast website.
“We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint through efficient scheduling that consolidates flights and fills return trips whenever possible. We also prioritize the use of reusable containers, using compostable packaging for consumables, and diverting waste by composting and recycling. The rest we ‘offset’ through the Fund. To achieve carbon negativity we offset 125% of the assessed footprint of all of our trips and activities.”
